What does new really mean at game stop?

Ok, i was looking to buy a new copy of M effect 2 after breaking my old one in the tornado of Alabama. And i never did get the Cerberus network with my old one and i forgot the code for my old one. And as some people know M effect 2, the new copy is only 19.98, so i was wondering can i still get the code from a new copy of M Effect 2 via gamestop? help!
