I need some cooking help please?

I have Fresh green beans and im going to dice the white onion but how do i cook them?? I was going to put them in a skillet and saute them to have that caramelized onion taste but i have nooo idea how to or if thats the right way. should stem them?? I want them the way the chinese restrants make them.
